The van is finished in standard VW Candy White.
The OE alloy wheels, mid row Kombi seat, rubber load area floor and lining panels were all sold back to the dealer who will use them to convert a panel van into a pseudo Kombi.
The OE wheels were replaced with the VW Thunder alloys from our T5.1 that have been refinished in Dark Anthracite by Lepsons and shod with Dunlop Sport Max load rated tyres. I had bought a set of original silver Thunder alloys for our T5.1 with decent tyres before I sold it.
The van went to Jason @ Absolute Audio in Amesbury to fit a Pioneer Avic F88DAB radio / sat nav unit with canbus interface and to upgrade the OE front speakers to a set of Rainbow 8.2 with Pioneer rears.
The conversion to a camper van is the result of experience, after several years living with our pervious T5, and a lot of research. Why convert and not just buy a VW California or third party conversion I hear you ask? Well firstly we don’t quite like the California on several fronts and it is expensive for what it is and secondly the California and every third party conversion we have seen doesn’t work like we want it to work.
In order to achieve the result we wanted we decided that we would have to look at a specialist for each part and perhaps do some work ourselves. We knew that this may cost a bit more and need project managing but for the money we were going to spend we wanted what we wanted. So what have we done?
